TAKE TIME TO REFLECT

To think quietly and calmly, consider, ponder, mull over, contemplate, chew on, wonder are some of the meaning we find in the dictionary for the word, “reflect.”  It is a little word with great power.  As we come to the end of this year, it will do us all good if we take a little time to reflect on the events that took place in our lives this year.

One of the benefits of reflection is that it brings clarity and perspective into our lives.  When we take time to turn down the volume of the “noise” inside us, we can hear a small voice speaking within us.  For Christians that is where God’s Holy Spirit speaks to us.  Reflection allows us to see things clearly including our own contribution to problems and successes.  It helps us to explore our self-imposed limitations and come out of our limited thinking.

Many times, I’ve found being upset with others when reflection has revealed that the problem was within me.  When we quite down and begin to reflect our thots, motives and actions, it’s easy to find answers to life’s problems.

Reflection will bring you conviction on a certain matter.  It will pleasantly surprise you with creative solution to a problem.  Success in life requires doing things differently than it has been done before or approaching a matter in a new way.  Quite, calm reflection will bring the wisdom out of your spirit.

Think, consider, ponder, contemplate are some good ways to spend a few minutes of our time everyday.  This is when we should expect God’s Spirit to minister to our spirit.

Life Lessons:

  1. Set aside 10 minutes everyday to reflect on the day’s event.

  2. Reflect on choices you made today.  Consider the ripple effect it will have in the future.

  3. Reflect on the past (don’t hold on to it).  It holds the key to your future.

  4. Take immediate action based on what reflection reveals to you.  For example, if you have been neglecting or taking people for granted, let them know how much you value them.  If you’re meaning to call somebody for a long time (business or personal) go ahead and make that call today.  If you’ve thot of recognizing someone or doing a kind deed for a friend or a loved one, don’t wait.  Express yourself!  Life is too short to KNOW what to do and not DO them.  Let reflection bring the best out of you!

  5. When you reflect, expect God to guide you.

So, my son, throw yourself into this work for Christ. Pass on what you heard from me—the whole congregation saying Amen!— to reliable leaders who are competent to teach others. When the going gets rough, take it on the chin with the rest of us, the way Jesus did. A soldier on duty doesn't get caught up in making deals at the marketplace. He concentrates on carrying out orders. An athlete who refuses to play by the rules will never get anywhere. It's the diligent farmer who gets the produce. Think it over. God will make it all plain. 2 Timothy 2:7 (The Message)
